The post and beam Astoria is one of our more popular homes but the pre-designed stock plan contains some pricy features that look good but are not required structurally. We challenged our designers to make a new version that is more affordable without compromising the floor plan or the eye catching exterior design.
They have created two options for the March Home of The Month.

    Post and Beam Log Shell Package Includes:
     

    Post and Beam Structural System:

  • Average log diameter 13" ~ 15"

  • 4 Square log post and beam construction

  • Log posts are constructed of Douglas Fir

  • Tuck cuts for interior finish framing materials

  • Wall pitch height is 10'-0" (high main floor ceilings)

  • Posts flattened to accept finish-framing materials

  • Flat end trim on posts to allow direct bearing surfaces.

  • Posts are grooved to allow tucking of drywall & sheathing

  • Logs treated with protective anti-mildew/ fungicide deterrent

  • Sanding of knots, logging scars and exposed chain saw cuts

  • Flat end trim on posts to provide direct bearing surface and even load transfer

  • Flattening & slabbing for installation of framing materials and second floor gable ends

  • Interior log staircase, landing and Western Red Cedar Log hand railing as shown in plans.

    Log Upper Floor System:

  • Douglas Fir round log second floor joists and beams

  • Floor joists and beams are of diameter 15"+ average

  • Flattening & slabbing for installation of framing materials

  • Douglas Fir round log second floor double log beams

  • Tuck cuts for interior ceiling finishing

    Log Roof System:

  • Average roof log diameter 15"+

  • Douglas Fir round log ridges and purlins

  • Posts flattened to accept finish-framing materials

  • Flattening & slabbing of roof beams for installation of framing materials

  • All roof connections include permanent positioning and alignment device

  • Flat end trim on posts to allow direct bearing surfaces.

  • Posts flattened to accept finish-framing materials

  • Hand scribed round log truss (if applicable per design)

  • Log truss bolting hardware

    Steel Requirements Supplied and Installed: If applicable per design:

  • Log truss bolts and hardware

  • All lagging bolts and drift pins

  • Post bottom brackets

    Pre Delivery:

  • Full visual inspection of all logs during tagging and numbering.

  • Final sanding and cleanup of logs before shipping.

  • Apply non-hazardous wood treatment to prepare for staining, maintain color, deter mold and fungus growth.

    Technical Assistant:

  • Our pricing includes the labor for the on site technical assistant during the re-assembly of the log package.

  • After the erection of the shell, our assistant will consult with your general contractor to ensure a full understanding of the framing and finishing details required for your new log home.
