Post and Beam Overview
Working with our in-house designers you can create a custom plan or you can select any of our standard floor
plans and adapt them to suit your requirements.
Any of our stacked log plans can easily be adapted to a round log post and beam style.
Post and beam homes do not have the design limitations found with a stacked log package due to the shrinkage.
Therefore, the rigid design guidelines are removed, opening the door for architectural expression and design creativity.
Typically, each horizontal log is a structural beam that will support a dimensional framing member.
These beams are hand crafted with large diameter Douglas Fir for the superior strength and stunning beauty.
The beams are milled flat and grooved as required to accept floor and wall framing.
Posts are prepared from Douglas Fir, Engelmann Spruce or Western Red Cedar.
Each posts is milled flat at the location of adjacent stud wall framing.
At each location of a stud wall, the posts are grooved to receive the wall coverings. (Drywall and/or Sheathing).
Post and beam homes are an increasingly popular alternative to the stacked log building style.
The natural character of the hand crafted logs combined with the finishing flexibility and available
material choices to complement any personal finishing style.
In addition, post and beam structures typically cost less than stacked log buildings,
because they require less volume of logs, though each piece is more labor intensive.
